Animal ecologist and Ornithologist | |
Denis Allan Saunders spent nearly 30 years with CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) Division of Wildlife and Ecology in Western Australia. He began their as an Experimental Officer in 1968 and progressed to Officer-in-Charge. Saunders then moved to Canberra in 1997 as Assistant Chief of the Division. He has studied the ecology of black cockatoos and the effects of development on their distribution and abundance; the ecology of islands and conservation of island bird communities; and the conservation of bird communities in agricultural landscapes. Saunders received a Distinguished Service Award from the Society for Conservation Biology and was Chair of Birds Australia Emu Review Committee. He has also convened multi- and inter-disciplinary conferences on wildlife conservation. |
