Jarman, Howard Ernest Alfred (1916 - 1982)

Born: 16 April 1916  Adelaide, South Australia, Australia.  Died: 16 January 1982.
Howard Ernest A. Jarman worked for the Olympic Tyre & Rubber Co. from 1954. From 1971 he conducted bird identification courses for the Victorian Council of Adult Education. He had a particular interest in parrots.

Career Highlights
Born Adelaide, 16 April 1916. Died Melbourne, 16 January 1982. Educated Unley High School. Packing department, Kayser & Co. till 1937; various jobs including chain-man on a surveying team until 1941; War service 1941-46, working in medical services, including establishing hospital services in native villages in New Guinea; secretary, Royal Zoological Society of South Australia 1946-53; Melbourne Zoological Gardens 1953-54; Olympic Tyre & Rubber Co. from 1954. President, Bird Observers' Club 1956-58; treasurer, Royal Australasian Ornithologists' Union 1954-56 and secretary 1956-58; librarian and Editorial Liaison Officer, Bird Observers' Club for many years; conducted bird identification courses for the Victorian Council of Adult Education from 1974; selection committee member, Australian Natural History Medallion from 1968.
