Born: 1862?  Tasmania.  Died: 6 June 1945.
Arthur Larchin Butler was a leading field ornithologist in Tasmania and a valued member of the Animals and Birds Protection Board, where he emphasised the economic value of birds.

Career Highlights
Born ca 1862. Died Sandy Bay, Tasmania, 6 June 1945. A leading field ornithologist in Tasmania. Lectured to natural history societies, helped materially in framing regulations for bird protection. Valued member of the Animals and Birds Protection Board, where he emphasised the economic value of birds. Foundation member, Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union 1901, president 1937-38. Several of the skins and eggs he collected were placed in the Tasmanian Museum. Tagged all the Scrub Tit nesting places in the bush around his cottage on the slopes of Mount Wellington, Hobart. Foundation member, Tasmanian Field Naturalists' Club 1904; member, Royal Society of Tasmania 1925 until his death.
