Checchi, Ettore (1853 - 1946)

Born: 11 July 1853  Pisa, Italy.  Died: 19 July 1946  Hampton, Victoria, Australia.
Ettore Checchi was chief engineering officer, Victorian State Rivers and Water Supply Commission 1906-26. His technical data on harnessing the River Murray formed the basis of the River Murray agreement of 1925 between the three neighbouring States and the Commonwealth.

Born Pisa, Italy, 11 July 1853. Died Hampton, 19 July 1946. Educated Florence (civil engineering). Arrived Melbourne 1876. Draftsman, Department of Lands and Survey 1876-82; engineering draughtsman, Public Works Department 1882-87, assistant engineer 1887-88; superviser of water-trusts and minor works, Department of Water Supply 1889, in charge of river-gaugings and measurements of water 1889-1906; State Rivers and Water Supply Commission 1906-26.
