Stirling, James (1852 - 1909)

Geologist and Botanist
Born: 1852  Geelong, Victoria, Australia.  Died: 1909.
James Stirling joined the Victorian Department of Crown Lands and Survey in 1873. He worked in various government positions including Lands Officer at Omeo, where he surveyed Victoria's alps and sent botanical specimens from the alps to Ferdinand von Mueller. Stirling was later appointed Government Geologist.
