Passioura, John (1938 - )

Born: 17 February 1938  Balranald, New South Wales, Australia
John Passioura has worked for CSIRO since 1966 and has been Chief Research Scientist, CSIRO Plant Industry since 1987. His research in plant physiology and soil science, particularly in plants' use of water and the interactions between roots and soil, has contributed to the breeding of plants to resist drought.

Assistant Lecturer, School of Agriculture, University of Melbourne 1963; CSIRO Postdoctoral Fellow, Macaulay Institute for Soil Research, Aberdeen, Scotland 1963-64; Research Fellow, Department of Soils and Fertilizers, Agricultural University, Wageningen, The Netherlands 1964-66; Research Scientist, CSIRO Division of Land Research 1966-70, Senior Research Scientist 1970-73; Principal Research Scientist, CSIRO Division of Plant Industry 1973-80, Senior Principal Research Scientist 1980-87, Chief Research Scientist 1987- . Fellow, Australian Academy of Science 1994.
