Wilson, Stephen James (Steve) (1912 - )

Born: 10 June 1912  Richmond, Victoria, Australia
Stephen James (Steve) Wilson is a keen amateur ornithologist. He took out a banding licence in 1960 for his son who, at 15, was too young to get a licence. From 1961-82 he conducted field work every weekend with young volunteers in banding surveys of birds in various sites in the ACT, principally the Brindabellas, the Australian National Botanic Gardens and Lake George.

Career Highlights
Born Richmond, Victoria, 10 June 1912. OAM for his contribution to ornithological research, bird banding and the community. Educated St. Patrick's College, Ballarat. War service in Royal Australian Air Force; Department of the Navy 1946-71, retiring as head of the naval personnel branch. Instrumental in forming the Canberra Ornithologists Group and long-time committee member; now an Honorary Life Member. Wrote Birds of the ACT: Two Centuries of Change, published by the Canberra Ornithologists Group in 1999.
