| Douglas David Dow lectured in zoology at the University of Queensland from 1969 until at least 1986. He worked on Noisy Miners and other species of communal breeders like Babblers and established a small field station at Meandara, west of Brisbane. |

| Born Scotland. Emigrated to Canada 1951. Educated Universities of British Columbia (BSc (hons) 1964) and Western Ontario (PhD 1968). Began banding birds under the Canadian Wildlife Service scheme 1957; director, Point Pelee Bird Observatory 1958; Department of Recreation and Conservation of British Columbia ca 1960-64, carrying out extensive surveys of the bird life of the Provincial Parks; worked for the Canadian Wildlife Service in the Lake Erie district, becoming proficient in aerial survey techniques; lecturer in zoology, University of Queensland from ca 1969. Editor, Ontario Bird Banding ca 1965-68; Councillor, McIlwraith Ornithological Society ca 1965-68; Councillor, Queensland Ornithological Society 1970-?; President, Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union 1983-86. |
