Born: 1839  Ipswich, Suffolk, United Kingdom.  Died: 12 June 1907.
John Dennant was Inspector of Schools in Victoria from 1890, President of the Royal Society of Victoria (1903) and a Fellow of the Geological Society of London. He prepared a report on the Estimation of Alkalies in Igneous Rocks for the Second Meeting of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science (1890). He arrived in Australia (Victoria) in 1872 and was a school headmaster from 1879.
