Born: Scotland
John Gibson worked for David Mitchell's cement works at Burnley from 1890-1900. He became Managing Director of Monier Pipe Company in 1900 and also took over large interests in the South Australian Portland Cement Company.

Worked at St. Rollox Chemical Works, Glasgow for 4 years, London Portland Cement Company, Kent, Manager, Milburn Lime and Cement Works, Dunedin 1888-90, Manager, David Mitchell's cement works at Burnley, 1890-1900, Managing Director, Monier Pipe Company 1900-29?. President, Society of Chemical Industry of Victoria.
