Born: 3 June 1895  Prospect, South Australia, Australia.  Died: 3 September 1963.
Herbert Mathew Hale was a cadet at the South Australian Museum from 1914, the Director's Assistant from July 1917, Assistant in Zoology from 1922, Zoologist (Crustacea) from 1925, Museum Curator (director) 1928-60.
