| Alan Parkhurst Dodd was director, Biological Section, Queensland Department of Lands 1939-62. Earlier he had worked as Assistant Entomologist at the Sugar Experiment Station at Gordonvale, North Queensland where he directed research work on chemical control of noxious weeds. The highlight of his career was his role in the introduction and dissemination of Cactoblastis for the control of Prickly Pear. |

Assistant Entomologist, Bureau of Sugar Experiment Stations 1912-1921 (this period includes three and a half years in the Australian Imperial Force during World War I); Assistant Entomologist, Commonwealth Prickly-Pear Board 1921-24, Senior Entomologist in North and South America 1924-25, Chief Entomologist 1925-29, Officer-in-charge Investigations 1925-39; Scientific Advisor, Queensland Prickly-Pear Land Commission from August 1927; director, Biological Section, Queensland Department of Lands 1939-62. |
