Keith Alfred Hindwood was an Honorary Ornithologist with the Australian Museum, Sydney, published several books on Australian birds and was President of the RAOU 1944-46. In his lifetime he contributed more material to The Emu than anyone else. He had a particular interest in the rock warbler. |

Born Willoughby, New South Wales, 3 July 1904. Died Sydney, 18 March 1971. Educated North Sydney Public School. Owner of a wholesale stationery, office supplies and printing business 1928-70. Photographs of natural history subjects published in the Sydney Mail 1928-37; wrote a column, 'Nature Notes and Studies', in the Land newspaper 1931-32, under the pseudonym 'Oriole'. Honorary ornithologist (later research associate), Australian Museum,1930-71. Corresponding Fellow, American Ornithologists' Union 1938; Fellow, Royal Zoological Society of New South Wales 1950; Fellow, Royal Australasian Ornithologists' Union 1951; Australian Natural History medallion 1959. Life member, Gould League of Bird Lovers of New South Wales from 1931; president, Royal Zoological Society of New South Wales 1939; president, Royal Australasian Ornithologists' Union 1944-46. Wrote a large number of articles and a number of books on birds, as well as articles on pioneer naturalists and early colonial artists. |
