Geologist and Antarctic explorer
Born: 20 July 1886  Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, England.  Died: 24 June 1974  Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
(Sir) Raymond Edward Priestley left an academic and administrative career at Cambridge University to accompany Shackleton and Scott on their Antarctic expeditions 1907-13. He served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Melbourne until 1938 and then returned to the U.K.
