Born: 21 January 1834  Bury, Lancashire, England.  Died: 13 September 1896  Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
(Sir) George Frederic Verdon, who was interested in astronomy, was appointed honorary assistant in the Melbourne Observatory in 1858. Through his political positions he was able to increase funds for the Observatory, F. Mueller, and the National Museum of Victoria.
