Peter Orlebar Bishop was Professor of Physiology, University of Sydney 1955-67 and at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, Australian National University, Canberra 1967-82. He provided increased understanding of people's ability to see in three dimensions.

Junior Resident Medical Officer, Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney 1941, Neurological Registrar 1941-42, Surgeon Lieutenant, RANR 1942-46, Clinical Assistant in Neurosurgery, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital 1946, Fellow, Postgraduate Committee in Medicine, University of Sydney 1946-50, Clinical Clerk, National Hospital for Nervous Diseases, Queen Square London 1946-47, Research Fellow, Department of Anatomy, University College London 1947-50, Fellow, National Health and Medical Research Council, Department of Surgery, University of Sydney 1950-51, Senior Lecturer, Department of Physiology, University of Sydney 1951-54, Reader in Physiology 1954-55, Professor of Physiology and Head of Department of Physiology 1955-67, Professor and Head of Department of Physiology, Australian National University 1967-82, Honorary Research Associate, Department of Anatomy and Histology, University of Sydney 1987-. Fellow, Australian Academy of Science 1967, Fellow, Royal Society 1977, Australia Prize 1993. Chairman of Board, "Historical Records of Australian Science" 1982-1997. The P.O. Bishop Medal, awarded annually to the top student taking the Bachelor of Science (Medical) degree, was struck by the University of Sydney in his honour.
