Calvert, James Snowden (1825 - 1884)

Born: 13 July 1825  Otley, Yorkshire, England.  Died: 22 July 1884  Sydneyq, New South Wales, Australia.
James Snowden Calvert accompanied Ludwig Leichhardt (q.v.) on his 1844-45 expedition from Brisbane to Port Essington. He was the husband of Caroline Louisa Atkinson.

Career Highlights
Born Otley, Yorkshire, England, 13 July 1825. Died Sydney, 22 July 1884. Migrated to Australia 1841. Went with Ludwig Leichardt (q.v.) from Brisbane to Port Essington 1844-45, manager, Cavan station, near Yass. Keen botanist, who won medals for botanical entries at exhibitions in London and Paris. Commemorated by several place names in Queensland.
