You be the judge. 'Five Antarctic explorers from Australia, Taylor, Mawson, Davis, David, Stillwell, 1912. National Library of Australia. MS 1003/2/144' - from Griffith Taylor: Antarctic Scientist and Pioneer Geographer,Carleton University Press, Ottawa, Canada, 1988. R.J.Tingey labeled the man second from the left as Stillwell, and the man third from the left as Mawson.
R.J.Tingey writes:
On the front page of your July 1993 issue you published a picture of 2 quaintly clad gentlemen above a caption 'Who are we?'. I would imagine that the question was answered long ago but in case it hasn't I submit that Mawson was the man in the flat cap and Stillwell was the man in 'the rather fetching snow suit'. I support my case with the picture 'Five Antarctic explorers from Australia' on which I have put numbers to get around the misleading caption.
