What is Bright Sparcs?

Bright Sparcs is an authoritative World Wide Web resource focused on the history and heritage resources of science, technology and medicine in Australia. The resource is currently based on 3,000 Biographical Authority Records that register the key life and career information of scientists, technologists, medical researchers, science administrators and industrialists who have played a formative role in the building of the Australian nation. Linked to these Biographical Authority Records is information about the content and location of archival and museum resources, online exhibitions and histories, and bibliographic data.

Bright Sparcs is the major outreach and communication tool of the Australian Science and Technology Heritage Centre at the University of Melbourne. The site, based on international standards for heritage information management, is the benchmark for world’s best practice in this area. It is one of the major resources on the World Wide Web for information about the history of science, technology and medicine in Australia and is actively used by teachers and students not only in Australia but overseas as well.
