Gascoigne, Robert Mortimer (1918 - 1994)

Born: 16 March 1918.  Died: April 1994.
Robert Mortimer Gascoigne was a science historian who specialised in analysing the significance and citation rates of over 900 scientific journals and books. He authored many works detailing this material including the Historical catalogue of scientists and scientific books from rhe earliest times to the close of the 19thCenturay (1984). Gascoigne as himself a scientist having worked in the field of organic chemistry for many years. His main area of research was on the tetracyclic triterpenses produced by Australian native plants. Gascoigne was a Senior Lecturer at the University of New South Wales until his retirement in 1977 and the following year was made a life member of the Royal Society of New South Wales.
