John Andrew Lamberton joined the CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) Organic Chemistry Section in 1951 and become known as an outstanding natural products chemist. His initial project at CSIRO was on plant waxes, anacardiaceous exudates and isoflavones. In 1965 Lamberton assumed responsibility for the alkaloid program that evolved from a survey of New Guinea flora. He remained at CSIRO until 1986. During his PhD Lamberton worked on the alkaloids from Acronychia baueri and Medicosma cunninghammii. The John A Lamberton Research Scholarships was founded by the University of Sydney in his honour and the University of Sydney Archives has a collection of his papers and other material. |
