Warren John Ewens is Professor of Biology at the University of Pennsylvania, USA and has used mathematical and statistical methods for research into evolutionary population genetics throughout his career. In 1996 he was awarded the E.J. Pitman Medal by the Statistical Society of Australia in recognition of this work. Prior his Pennsylvania appointment, Ewens was Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Monash University for twenty years and before that, Foundation Chair and Professor of Mathematics at La Trobe University from 1967 to 1972. From 1972 to 1977 he was once again at the University of Pennsylvania. Warren Ewens is an author of many scientific publications and a Fellow of both the Australian Academy of Science and the Royal Society of London. |
