Costa, Marcello (1940 - )

Born: 9 January 1940  Turin, Italy
Marcello Costa is Professor of Neurophysiology at Flinders University and Co-Chair of the South Australian Neuroscience Institute (SANI). He is an editorial board member for several scientific journals and has co-authored more than 250 works on his pioneering studies in the field of nervous control of gut movements. The current classification of neurons that control gut functions is largely due to work performed in his laboratory. Marcello Costa has taught Medical students since 1975, established and coordinated most topics in the field of Neurosciences at Flinders University and was one of the founders of the Cognitive Sciences course. He was a Visiting Fellow and Professor at Universities and Research Institutions in Portland, Oregon, at Helsinky University (Finland), at University "la Sapienza" (Rome), at Menarini Foundation (Florence) and at University of Torino. Marcello Costa has received many honours and recognitions and is committed to public education of Neuroscience.
