| John Daly had two academic passions, the study of science and the study of theology, especially the history of Catholic thought and its contemporary meanings. He vigorously pursued both throughout his life, learning Latin, ancient Greek, French, Italian and Spanish so he could read all recorded works on these subjects. Always a brilliant student, Daly won a scholarship to St Kevin’s and went on to graduate with a MSc from the University of Melbourne. His first job was assisting on a survey in northern Australia, he then worked at the Bureau of Mineral Resources, and BHP as a senior geophysicist and consultant. John Daly was also a prominent member of the Australian Geophysicist Society throughout his life. |
