Betty Wilmot began her working life as a dietician at Victorian Railways. After gaining a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB BS) from the University of Melbourne she was a resident medical officer at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, and the Children's Hospital, Perth. Wilmot was later assistant director, then director, of Maternal, Infant and Pre-School Welfare at the Department of Health, Victoria. She was appointed as Officer of the Order of the British Empire, in recognition of her work in maternal and child health, on 3 June 1978. |
