Elspeth Mary McLachlan has held a number of positions, the most recent being Professor and Head of Department, Department of Physiology & Pharmacology, University of Queensland 1988-93; Senior Principal Research Fellow, Prince of Wales Medical Research Institute, Sydney 1993-99; Conjoint Professor, School of Physiology & Pharmacology, University of New South Wales 1993- ; Director, Centre for Research Management, National Health & Medical Research Council; Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research), University of New South Wales. She is a world authority on neural pathways within the autonomic nervous system. Her work has ranged from detailed analyses of transmission in autonomic ganglia to studies of the organisation of autonomic nervous pathways and their disorder in pathological states.
