McElhinny, Michael William (1933 - )

Born: 9 December 1933  Windsor, Berkshire, England
Michael William McElhinny is a geophysicist with special interests in palaeomagnetism. In 1988 he and his wife set up the company Gondwana Consultants to help create global databases on the phenomenom. McElhinny is also heavily involved in academia, administration and research. He is Adjunct Professor in Geological Sciences at the University of Michigan, USA and Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Council at the Tectonics Special Research Centre, University of Western Australia. Prior to this he was Chief Geophysicist at the Bureau of Mineral Resources, Geology and Geophysics (1982-1988) and Senior Fellow in Geophysics at the Australian National University Department of Geophysics and Geochemistry (later the Research School of Earth Sciences).
