Born: 7 August 1878  Kimbolton, Huntingdonshire, England.  Died: 19 April 1958  South Yarra, Victoria, Australia.
(Sir) William Lennon (Lennon) Raws was first managing director of Imperial Chemical Industries (Australia) Ltd (I.C.I.A.N.Z. from 1929) 1928-46, vice-chairman 1933-34 and chairman 1934-46. He was involved in having Australian brown coal evaluated in the UK during the 1920s and 30s with a view to liquefying it to produce synthetic petrol, a process which became very important during World War II.
