McKay, Donald (1810 - 1880)

Donald McKay built the most famous clippers between 1845 and 1855 at his shipyard in Boston. They were large vessels, ranging in size from 1,500 to 2,000 tons and manned by crews of up to 120 men. They made the voyage from Europe to Australia in less than 70 days.
