Norman Alan (Alan) Walker was Associate Professor (Biology), University of Sydney 1967-85 and Professor of Biology 1985-93. He is interested in transport in plants including charophytes and flowering plants.

Research Officer, CSIRO Division of Plant Industry 1955-64; CSIRO Postgraduate Studentship, Physiological Laboratory, Cambridge 1960-62; Senior Research Associate, School of Biological Sciences, University of East Anglia, Norwich 1964-67; Associate Professor (Biology), University of Sydney 1967-85, Professor of Biology 1985-91, Challis Professor of Biology 1991-93; Director, Centre for Plant Membrane Biology; Visiting Professor, Department of Biophysics, School of Physics, University of New South Wales. Syme Prize 1982 (shared with F.A. Smith, qv); Fellow, Australian Academy of Science 1982
