| Born: 1881? New South Wales, Australia. Died: 15 May 1960. |
| Harold Clarence Oakes worked for the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, where he became Chief Chemist. Later he branched out as an industrial chemist and assayer, working on separating gold from black sands, for which he patented a machine for separating gold from other metals, and the distillation of essential oils from Australian trees. |
