Robert Woodhouse Crompton was Head of the Atomic and Molecular Physics Laboratories at the Australian National University 1983-91. His research is in the area of electron swarm physics.

Fellow, Australian Academy of Science 1979. Chair, ACT Branch, Australian Institute of Physics 1973-74; chair, ACT Division, ANZAAS 1982-83; Chair, Australian Journals of Scientific Research Board 1982-87; President, Australian Institute of Physics 1993-95.
