Mansfield, William Walladge (1924 - 1974)

 
Industrial chemist
Born: 1 June 1924  Ardrossan, South Australia, Australia.  Died: 31 December 1974.
William Walladge Mansfield spent most of his working life (1946-74) with CSIR/O Division of Industrial Chemistry. He undertook research in a variety of areas, including improvements to the wool scouring process, control of evaporation from water storages in hot, dry locations, techniques for dealing with accidental oil spillages at sea, polywater, and the physical chemistry, on a very large scale, of the atmosphere and oceans.

Born Ardrossan, South Australia, 1 June 1924. Died Melbourne, 31 December 1974. Educated University of Adelaide (BSc (hons) 1944, DSc 1973). Postgraduate research, University of Adelaide 1945, CSIR/O Division of Industrial Chemistry 1946-74, CSIRO Division of Atmospheric Physics from 1 June 1974. Chairman, Physical Chemistry Group, Victorian Branch, Royal Australian Chemical Institute at the time of his death.
