William J. Jackson spent most of his working life at the Sulphide Corporation, starting in 1896 as a Junior Chemist and retiring in 1950 as Chief Chemist in charge of research and plant investigations. |

Born 7 March 1880, Plattsburg, New South Wales. Died 10 April 1966, Newcastle. Educated Sydney Technical College (ASTC 1901). Junior Chemist, Sulphide Corporation 1896-1901, Senior Analytical and Assaying Chemist 1901-14, Research Assistant and Assistant Metallurgist 1914-18, Metallurgist in charge of roasting, smelting and refining 1918-22, Chemist-Manager, Astrol Pigments Ltd 1922-25, Research Chemist and Metallurgist, Sulphide Corporation 1925-30, Chief Chemist in charge of research and plant investigations 1930-50. Honorary Chemist to the Horticultural Societies of the Newcastle District, an alderman for 9 years and Deputy Mayor on three occasions. |
