Born: 1877 Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Died: 9 March 1944. |
Arthur J. Gibson was Assistant Manager and Director of Gibson and Howes Ltd., Bingera Plantation from1918 to 1939, then Managing Director from 1939 until his death. Before this, from 1895 to 1897, he worked at various sugar companies in Germany, Hawaii and Queensland. In 1898 Gibson went back to Germany where he carried out postdoctoral studies. On his return to Queensland in 1902 he was appointed assistant chemist with the Bureau of Sugar Experiment Stations in Bundaberg. Over the next sixteen years Gibson worked at the Bingera Plantation; was General Superintendent of the Bureau of Sugar Experiment Stations; and was General Manager of Central Sugar Mills to 1918. From 1933 to 1935 he was General Chairman of the International Society of Sugar Cane Technologists. |
