David Geoffrey Penington was Chairman of the AIDS Task Force 1984-87, Vice-chancellor of the University of Melbourne 1988-95 and a co-founder of Foursight, a company set up to provide advice on R&D and science to companies, investment institutions, academics and government.

Born Melbourne, 4 February 1930. Educated Universities of Melbourne and Oxford, MA, DM, BCh. AC 1988. Consultant Physician, London Hospital 1963-67, Professor of Medicine, University of Melbourne 1970-87, Vice-Chancellor 1988-95, co-founder of Foursight 1996-. Member of numerous boards and committees, including Board of Management, Cancer Institute 1978-86, Board of Management, Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research 1978-84 and 1988-95, AIDS Task Force 1984-87, Chairman, Australian Higher Education Industry Association (and predecessor body) 1989-91, Board of Directors, Pacific Dunlop 1991-.
