Bernhardt Otto Holtermann was a successful gold miner, who had an interest in medicine. He is known to have produced papers re patents for medicines 1875-84 and formulae for medicines 1885. his "Life Preserving Drops", compounded from the formula of a German doctor, were very popular. Holtermann arrived in Australia 1858 and did a variety of jobs while prospecting around Hill End and Hawkins Hill, where a 630 lb nugget was discovered. Later he sponsored a series of photographs of the settled areas of New South Wales and Victoria to be sent abroad to encourage migrants. |
