Henderson, John ( - 1836)

John Henderson lived in Australia 1929-31, forming the Van Diemen's Land Society and carrying out scientific investigations in New South Wales.

Career Highlights
Arrived in Van Diemen's Land in 1829 as surgeon superintendent of the ship "York", on leave from the Bangal Army (to which he was a surgeon). Formed the Van Diemen's Land Society (also known as the Philosophical Society and the Van Diemen's Land Scientific Society) late in 1829. (The Van Diemen's Land Society lasted only until 1831). Visited New South Wales 1830-31 and carried out scientific investigations. In 1831 he resumed his service with the Army in India, where he died in 1836.
