Bowman, James (1784 - 1846)

Born: 1784.  Died: 23 August 1846  Ravensworth, New South Wales, Australia.
James Bowman was Inspector of colonial hospitals from 1828-36 and a member of the local committee of the Australian Agricultural Company 1824-29.

Career Highlights
Born England, 1784. Died Ravensworth (between Singleton and Muswellbrook), 23 August 1846. Surgeon on the transport ship "Mary Anne", which arrived in Sydney on 19 January 1816. Returned to England. Appointed principal surgeon at Sydney Hospital in 1819. Inspector of colonial hospitals 1828-36. Married Elizabeth, the second daughter of John and Elizabeth Macarthur, in 1823 and with land grants and purchases achieved an estate, Ravensworth, of more than 12,000 acres. Member of the local committee of the Australian Agricultural Company 1824-29.
