Josef Lederer was the foundation professor of optometry, University of New South Wales 1976-82. He won international acclaim for his work with the rehabilitation of partially sighted people, particularly for his designs for low vision aids. |
Career Highlights |
Born Vienna, 1921. Emigrated to Australia 1939. Educated Sydney Technical College (optometry) and University of Sydney (physiology). Sydney Technical College 1945-50, lecturer, NSW University of Technology (later University of New South Wales) 1951-59, associate professor 1959-76, foundation professor of optometry 1976-82. Honoured by the Australian Optometrical Association's New South Wales Division, who have set up the Lederer Award for Excellence in Optometry. |
