Horticulturalist and Botanist
Born: 5 August 1866  Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.  Died: 19 May 1938  Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
John Frederick Bailey was appointed Queensland Government Botanist in 1915 on the death of his father, F.M. Bailey, but in 1917 he accepted the directorship of the Botanic Garden, Adelaide. He retired in 1932.

Career Highlights
Born Brisbane, 5 August 1866. Died Brisbane, 19 May 1938. Educated Divinity Hall, the Presbyterian training college. Assistant to his father in the botanical branch of Queensland's Department of Agriculture 1889-1905, member of an expedition to the Gulf of Carpentaria with W.E. Roth, the northern protector of Aboriginals 1901; director, Botanic Gardens, Brisbane, 1905-17, government botanist of Queensland 1915-17, director, Botanic Garden, Adelaide 1917-32. President, Royal Society of Queensland 1909; president, Dahlia Society of South Australia.
