Roth, Walter Edmund (1861 - 1933)

Born: 2 April 1861  London, England.  Died: 5 April 1933  Georgetown, British Guiana.
Walter Edmund Roth was appointed the first Northern Protector of Aborigines 1898 and was based in Cooktown Queensland. In 1904-06 he was Chief Protector and part of his duties was to record Aboriginal cultures. He published widely and became internationally known for his work.
