Preiss, Johann August Ludwig (1811 - 1883)

Born: 21 November 1811  Herzberg am Harz, Hanover, Germany.  Died: 21 November 1883  Herzberg am Harz, Hanover.
Johann August L. Preiss was made extensive collections of natural history specimens including mammals, birds, reptiles, and insects. As part of his collection expeditions he visited most of the known parts of south-western Australia. It is believed that others were later credited with the discovery of new species which Preiss had already discovered.
