Born: 4 May 1825  Ealing, Middlesex, England.  Died: 29 June 1895  Eastbourne, England.
Thomas Henry Huxley visited Australia as assistant surgeon and naturalist on board the "Rattlesnake" 1847-50, during the early part of his scientific career. He carried out scientific research into the seas between the Australian coast and the Great Barrier Reef.
