Darwin, Charles Robert (1809 - 1882)

Born: 12 February 1809.  Died: 19 April 1882.
Charles Robert Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection ("Origin of Species" 1859) convinced biologists that evolution had occurred. He visited Australia in 1836 as naturalist on the "Beagle", and subsequently used Australian material in developing his ideas.
