Horatio Scott Carslaw was Professor of Mathematics, University of Sydney 1903-35. He was interested in the theory of conduction of heat. |

Born Helensburgh, Scotland, 12 February 1870. Died Burradoo, New South Wales, 11 November 1954. Educated Universities of Glasgow (MA 1891), Cambridge (BA 1894, MA 1898, ScD 1908) and Göttingen (1896-97). Assistant lecturer in mathematics, University of Glasgow 1896-1903, Fellow, Emmanuel College, Cambridge 1899-1905, Professor of mathematics, University of Sydney 1903-35. He was a member of the first board of examiners established under A.C. Carmichael's University (Amendment) Act 1912 and was chief examiner of mathematics for the next 30 years. | ||
