Born: 2 July 1880 Vienna, Austria. Died: 28 June 1944 Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. | ||
Anton Breinl was a specialist in protozoology and from 1909 the first Director of the Australian Institute of Tropical Medicine in Townsville, Queensland. In 1920 he was forced to resign due to post-war intolerance and practised privately. |

Born Vienna, 2 July 1880. Died Sydney, 28 June 1944. Educated Charles University, Prague (medical degree 1904) and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. Yellow Fever Expedition to Brazil 1905; research at London School of Tropical Medicine 1904-05, 1906-07, director of its Runcorn Research Laboratory 1907-09; first director, Australian Institute of Tropical Medicine, Townsville 1910-20; private practice, Townsville, 1920-44. Lectured on midwifery to trainee nurses, Townsville General Hospital until his death. Mary Kingsley Medal for research in tropical medidine 1910. |
