Chemical engineer
Born: 7 May 1905  Machynlleth, Wales.  Died: 5 September 1989.
(Sir) John Philip Baxter was Professor of Chemical Engineering, University of New South Wales 1949-53 and Vice-Chancellor 1955-69. He was also Chairman of the Australian Atomic Energy Commission 1957-72.

Research Manager, General Chemicals Division, ICI 1931-44, Research Director, General Chemicals Division, ICI and Director, Thorium Ltd 1944-49, Professor of Chemical Engineering, University of New South Wales 1949-52, Deputy Director 1952-53, Director 1953-54, Vice-Chancellor 1955-69. Chairman, Australian Atomic Energy Commission, 1957-72. Fellow, Australian Academy of Science 1954, Kernot Medal 1970, Foundation Fellow, Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering 1975.
