Christopher Pemberton Hodgson spent around five years in Australia. He first managed two (cattle?) stations then accompanied Ludwig Leichhardt on his journey to Port Essington which departed on 1 October 1844. Hodgson was forced to return on November 5 due to fatigue and a lack of provisions. He organized an unsuccessful search party to find the Leichhardt party after hearing that it had come into trouble. Christopher Hodgson returned to London and wrote three books including Reminiscences of Australia, with Hints of a Squatter's Life published in 1846.
