Born: 1812  Vienna, Austria.  Died: 17 April 1901  Chelsea, England.
Johann Joseph E. von Guerard arrived in Victoria in 1852 and spent 16 years travelling and sketching in the wilds of south-eastern Australia, sometimes in company with such scientific expeditions as those led by A.W. Howitt in 1860 and G.B. Neumayer in 1862.
